Ok, I admit it...

I’m an addict. At any moment, I have at least 20 browser tabs open and usually two browsers running. Half of those tabs are awesome resources that I mean to “test” or at least bookmark. That, and the fact that I get into a lot of conversations about resources prompted me to start posting them instead of slowing my computer down and cluttering my bookmark manager. Some are tested, some are not. I will provide commentary when possible and obviously this page will be a work in progress.

Flowcharts (Forget Visio)

As a visual thinker, I love software for flowcharts and diagrams. Visio was a staple in my toolbox but feels antiquated and unconnected at this point. So of course, now there are plenty of online alternatives!
Lucidchart

Lucidchart

A personal favorite for making flowcharts and diagrams. Only 60 ``objects`` per chart in the free account which is plenty when you're starting but frustrating once you're addicted.

Draw.io

Draw.io

I have yet to create an actual diagram but this site just seems to work well, connect to any cloud drive, and its free... Almost too good to be true.

Image Creation

Photoshop was another go-to software for me. These days I use it less and less and am actively trying to eliminate it from my workflow. Unless I’m actually doing complex edits for a photoshoot, its hard to find it necessary anymore. Sorry Adobe!

Pablo by Buffer

Buffer, one of my favorite companies, released a tool to easily create a graphic with some text. I made this background in one minute as a test.

Pixlr Editor

Pixlr Editor

I heard this described once as Photoshop 4 (an old version), but online... for free! Handles most of your basic editing needs.

Image Optimization & Compression

With so many great resources out there for free stock photography, its tempting to just upload them directly to a website and call it a day. After catching myself almost uploading a 7MB file as an background image, I checked around for image compression sitesĀ  that work well.
compressor

Compressor.io lets you upload your image and then download a compressed version that still looks great. You can even save directly to Dropbox or Google Drive. I converted a 7MB file to 1MB instantly.
